There continues to be a wide range of average when talking about speech and language skills at this age. <\/i><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Points to colors (red, blue, yellow and green).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Knows some quantitative concepts such as: one more, more, less<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Knows some spatial concepts such as: under, over, next to.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Follows commands even if object is not present<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Can produce consistently the following sounds: m, n, ng, p, b, h, w. f, h, k, d, g.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Asks many questions ; uses \u201cwho\u201d and \u201cwhy\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Can speak of imaginary conditions using phrases like \u201dI hope\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Has a sentence length of 4-5 words<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Has a vocabulary of nearly 1500 words<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Uses past tense<\/p>\n<p><u><i>You can stimulate your child\u2019s speech and language by<\/i><\/u>:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Having your child help you plan meals and activities- talk about the steps you will take to complete the activity<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Letting him\/her tell and make up stories for you<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Reading longer stories to your child<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Don\u2019t expect perfect pronunciation<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>YOUR CHILD\u2019S SPEECH AND LANGUAGE AT 4 At four, your child should demonstrate some of the skills listed below.
